OUR ELECTION PROMISES FOR NEXT 5 YEARS

+ Traditional handicrafts, handlooms, cottage industry will be given special priority for generation of employment.
+ To complete the Gas Cracker project within the scheduled timeframe, all kinds of communication with the Centre and the authorities concerned will be carried out.
+ Mega food park at Nathkuchi in Nalbari, food processing farm at Chaygaon, Bamboo Park at Tinsukia, Banana Park at Goalpara, Jute Park at Nagaon and Textile Park at Sipajhar will be completed in 5 years.
+ Paper mill coming up at Matia in Goalpara with an investment of Rs. 1500 crore, will be commissioned within the next five years.
+ Proper implementation of the State Industrial Policy, 2008 will be ensured.
+ Congress Government-sponsored various employment generation schemes for individual beneficiaries will be further expanded.
+ For speedy industrial development in Assam, private and public sectors coupled with foreign investments will be encouraged to set up new industries.
+ Keeping tourism potential in mind, the tourism sector will be transformed into an industry.
+ Construction work of the International Trade Centre has already begun at Jagun along the historic Stilwell Road.

Handloom, Textiles & Sericulture

Our rich traditional textiles have long been a source of pride. The textiles produced in our State have earned accolades not only in India but abroad also. Thousands of weavers most of whom are women are involved in this traditional craft. Not only have they reserved our tradition but also it has been a source of livelihood. To development this traditional crafts and to provide financial assistance to a large number of weavers, several special initiatives will be undertaken in the next years.

+ In addition to distribution of free yarn, yarn banks will also be set up where yarn cost for weavers will be subsidized by 25%.
+ 25% power subsidy will also be provided to weavers for development of local textiles industry.
+ 25% subsidy will be provided to weavers for purchase of power looms, looms etc. for development of local textiles industry.
+ More poor weavers will be covered in employment generation schemes for their economic empowerment.
+ Distribution of free yarns and blankets to BPL families will be increased.
+ A special fund will be created for Golden Silk Project to increase the production of Eri- Muga and Pat yarn.
+ Subsidy will be provided to increase production of muga textiles. Special initiatives will be taken for exporting this product.
