Development of a State cannot be completed without proper road and bridge connectivity. At the time of the AGP Government, the conditions of the National Highways, PWD roads and bridges in the rural areas were in such a dilapidated condition that the areas seemed to be disconnected with each other.
25,000-km black topped roads have already been constructed. Of the total 5,000 wooden bridges 3000 have been converted into RCC bridges. Under the Chief Minister’s special scheme (MPNA), 900 km roads have been blacktopped and another 148 km roads is going on. Under the Chief Minister’s special scheme, construction works of 193 RCC bridges are in progress.
Apart from these, to ease traffic snarls in the Guwahati city, a number of flyovers have been constructed, which include Bhangagarh four-lane flyover, Six Mile flyover, two-lane flyovers in Maligaon and Athgaon areas. A two-lane flyover at Panbazar is also under construction.
In the same way, the PWD (Building) has completed constructions of the offices of the Deputy Commissioners, SDO, Circle Officers, Circuit Houses, district and sub- divisional civil hospitals, State Directorates. Construction of the medical colleges at Jorhat, Barpeta and Tezpur is going on a war-footing. The Assam Secretariat complex has been beautifully constructed, Games Village of the 33rd National Games was constructed with 700 flats of international standard. Infrastructure development work at all the three medical colleges of Guwahati, Dibrugarh and Silchar has been completed. This modern and high standard construction work by the PWD (Building) has changed the face of the State.
