DEVELOPMENT OF SCIENCE AND TECHNOLOGY
Today’s age is that of science and technology. Without inculcating scientific temperament in present-day activities, development will remain a distant dream.
As promised in the last elections, Aryabhatta Science Centers have been established in all the 219 development blocks of the state, science and mathematics facilitators have been recruited in the schools and to create scientific awareness Vigyan Jeuti Jatra and Jana Vigyan Mela are also being organised. For higher studies in science and technology research institutes like Institute of Advanced Studies in Science and Technology and Centre of Plasma Physics have been transferred to Central Department of Atomic Energy.
NEXT 5 YEARS’ ELECTION PROMISE
+ A Science City will be established at Guwahati.
+ A science and technology university would be set up in the State.
+ Construction of proposed Bio Tech Park in Guwahati would be completed.
+ Construction of new planetariums at Jorhat, Kokrajhar, Lakhimpur and Nalbari will be completed.
+ More emphasis would be laid on science and technology education right from primary level to university.
Information technology has become an indispensable part of our lives. Information Technology has turned the world into a global village. That is why the Congress Government took a slew of initiatives for rapid expansion of information technology at every level of administration.
SUCCESSFUL IMPLEMENTATION OF IT PROGRAMMES
As promised in last elections manifesto, the Congress Government in the past 5 years has set up 3760 Arunudoi Community Centres across the state. Rajiv Gandhi Computer Literacy Programme has been implemented vigorously. IT Policy of Assam, 2009 has been announced to attract investments from outside the state. Various headquarters, blocks etc of the state has been directly connected to the state capital through communication centers.
NEXT 5 YEARS’ ELECTION PROMISES
+ The use of Information of Technology will be promoted at block level level too. Necessary infrastructure will be out in place along with priority on IT skill development in order to bring about an IT revoluition in the State.
+ The construction of Assam Online Portal and Less Paper Office would be completed within the next 5 years and Information Technology would be further expanded. The proposed Data Bank, will be operationised at the Assam Secretariat.
